PEACE OF THE SEASON...A
YEAR-END, A YEAR-BEGINNING FUND APPEAL FROM THE BRANDYWINE
PEACE COMMUNITY
This is our first appeal for funds in six months
which doesn’t mean that our work has abated in any way. It continues with the
same intensity, consistency (which you know if you are on our e-mail list
or check the website regularly!), and commitment that has marked the past 29
years of Brandywine. That demonstrative and unceasing
history of peace organizing, direct action campaigns, and nonviolent resistance
has made Brandywine a national example of peace and anti-war organizing as well
as a regional resource that has proved essential to peace efforts and the
re-emergence of a vital peace movement.
We continue to organize one of the few continuing
anti-war campaigns of focused nonviolent resistance in the country as we return
again and again to Lockheed Martin. The cost of Lockheed Martin’s obscene
profits are counted daily in the Iraq war’s death
toll and an unbounded militarism that poisons the earth and economy.
Indeed, our campaign of Non-violent Resistance at Lockheed Martin remains
one of the most direct challenges to war-making we can make.
Over the past few years, however, Brandywine has also
been in the lead of the mass opposition to the war in Iraq and the
call for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops and
bases, organizing demonstration after demonstration, program after program,
workshop after workshop. Brandywine has repeatedly worked with other groups,
bringing a decades old, hard earned experience to a number of important
organizations and campaigns, such as: AFSC’s Eyes Wide Open exhibition,
Military Families Speak Out and Iraq Veterans Against the War, the just
launched PA Campaign to Bring Home the National Guard, and the National
Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance. (For a complete list of all 2005
events, click here.)
